RODEO PAGEANT ELIGIBILITY

Miss Black Rodeo USA Pageant currently features one division – Miss (Queen) – and is open to any young lady, ages 18-28, that is a resident of the United States and at least 25 percent Black, African American or African descent.


In addition to interviews, speeches and questions, Queen contestants will be judged on four categories:



  • Horsemanship: 35% of the total score
  • Personality: 30% of total score
  • Appearance: 30% of total score
  • Photogenic: 5% of total score

RODEO QUEEN DUTIES

Miss Black Rodeo USA serves as the official ambassador to Black Rodeo USA!


She is well versed on the sport of professional rodeo, a Western-inspired way of life, and horsemanship skills. She also is an excellent public speaker with an engaging personality.


As a titleholder, you will make appearances at official rodeos of Black Rodeo USA (at least five) and other approved events (at least two) that can include but not limited to: school appearances; sponsor-related visits; media appearances; and other equine or livestock related events.

RODEO PAGEANT DATES

April 15:  Application opens.


July 1: The application, along with a photo and video of a horsemanship pattern and 30-45-second personal introduction is due.

>> $100 of total entry fee ($300) due.


July 10: Finalists notified.


July 20:  Balance of entry fee ($200) due only for those notified of qualification to compete in the actual pageant.


Aug 21: Date of pageant.


TBA: Orientation (virtual) to be determined.

ELIGIBILITY & APPLICATION
  • What kind of experience do I need to apply?

    Applicants should be familiar with rodeo and able to complete a horsemanship pattern.

  • Is the entry fee refundable?

    No, the entry fee is not refundable. It covers administrative costs associated with the pageant.

  • What type of photos do I need to submit?

    You should have a quality photo that features you in western attire and that can be utilized in promotional purposes.

  • How do I make my application stand out?

    Be yourself. Make your passion and personality come alive with your words. Complete the application in entirety. If you have questions, reach out.

PREPARATION & EXPECTATIONS
  • What should I wear for the pageant?

    • Interview Attire: Western Business; slacks or skirts with jackets or vest along with Western hat and Western boots.
    • Horsemanship Attire: White Western blouse with black or dark blue denim jeans along with Western hat and Western boots.
    • Speech Attire: Western Elegance dress long or knee length; does NOT have to be leather but must have long or ¾ length sleeves and be dressy with Western hat and boots.
  • What is the time commitment for the year of service?

    The winner of the Miss Black Rodeo USA title must agree to make at least five (5) of the Black Rodeo USA official rodeos during her year’s reign. Plus at least two (2) other events as approved by the BRUSA Board.


    Other appearances may include school visits, sponsor-related visits, radio and television station appearances, and other equine or livestock related events wherein the titleholder represents the Black Rodeo USA Association.
